CH2M to renew, rehabilitate Miami-Dade South District Wastewater Treatment Plant

Denver — The Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer Department (WASD) awarded CH2M a six-year, $8.8 million contract for renewal and rehabilitation engineering services at its South District Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project focuses on improvements needed to keep the plant operational as the district completes programs associated with Florida's Ocean Outfall legislation and Consent Decree throughout the WASD system.

To address these legislative requirements, CH2M will also manage further facility upgrades, including electrical improvements, a new oxygen train, two new secondary clarifiers and high-level disinfection expansion. While drastically reducing ocean outfalls, these measures will also increase the plant's capacity up to 30 percent, from 285 to 368 million gallons a day.

Since 2007, CH2M has delivered more than $30 million in improvements to the South District plant, while also serving as the owner's agent for the district's Ocean Outfall program. To date under its existing contract, the firm has worked on 26 task authorizations — valued at $90 million in construction — that are either completed or under way. WASD has graded CH2M's performance with perfect 4.0 ratings on all evaluated projects, and the firm recently accepted multiple awards for its work on the Ocean Outfall program, including a Technology Merit Award for Climate Change Risk Modeling and Assessment from the Climate Change Business Journal, as well as the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce's Corporate Business of the Year Award for its outstanding contributions to the Chamber and local community.
