CH2M HILL wins three 2013 NCE International Tunnelling Awards

DENVER — CH2M HILL recently won three awards at the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association awards in London in recognition of project successes and contribution to tunneling design across the globe. Building on the successes of the past three years, CH2M HILL was named Global Tunnelling Design Firm of the Year.

The firm’s work was also recognized in the Technical Innovation and Environmental Initiative categories. The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority’s Blue Plains Tunnel was honored in the Technical Innovation of the Year category. CH2M HILL is the lead designer for this design-build project, working for the Traylor, Skanska, Jay Dee Joint Venture.

The National Grid Cable Tunnels project won Environmental Initiative of the Year. CH2M HILL has been involved as the lead designer responsible for these structures plus the shaft head houses.

Landmark projects and programs include the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System in Singapore; Crossrail and Thames Tideway in the UK; Sydney North West Rail Link in Australia; the Kishanganga Hydro Project in India; the Shatin to Central Metro/Mass Transit Railway in Hong Kong; the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Program in Abu Dhabi; the Shis to Khorfakkan roadway in Sharjah; and the Inner Doha Re-sewerage Integrated System in Qatar.

The NCE International Tunnelling Awards event was organized by New Civil Engineer, Ground Engineering and the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES). It celebrates the most innovative and successful projects, companies and individuals from across the global tunneling industry.
