CARBO Ceramics Inc. selects Robins & Morton to provide engineering services for new proppant manufacturing facility

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Robins & Morton has been awarded a contract by CARBO Ceramics Inc. to provide preliminary engineering and estimating for a CARBO grassroots ceramic proppant manufacturing facility. The work will be performed under an alliance agreement by which Robins & Morton will provide CARBO with both engineering and construction management services on selected assignments.

CARBO’s Vice President for Operations, Mark Edmunds, commented, "The proposed project will be an important incremental increase to CARBO’s proppant manufacturing capacity. We are pleased with our selection of Robins and Morton to help us with this project. In addition to providing world class engineering talent that understands our process and our business, Robins & Morton understands the principles of client service. These guys are all about getting the job done."

Construction of the plant is expected to create approximately 300 construction jobs, in addition to the permanent plant operations and maintenance positions. The facility will manufacture ceramic proppant, small spheres each about the size of a pin head, which the gas and oil industries use to enhance production from both oil and gas wells.

Steve Quillin, Robins & Morton Vice President for Engineering and General Manager of the recently opened Power and Industrial Division offices in Raleigh/Durham, explained, "At Robins and Morton, we enjoy what we do every day – solving complex problems and building relationships with our clients. It is particularly rewarding to partner with great clients like CARBO who appreciate the value that we provide. Because Robins and Morton can provide one-stop services for engineering, procurement, and construction, our employees have the opportunity to follow a project from concept through completion. This fosters a tremendous sense of ownership among our people, and provides clients like CARBO with a single point of responsibility for execution of their projects."
