Canatu receives IATF 16949 certification, the International Standard for Automotive Quality Management Systems

VANTAA Finland, 2022 —Canatu has received the IATF 16949:2016 certification for its manufacturing facility in Vantaa. The IATF 16949, specified by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) defines the Quality Management System (QMS) standards specifically for the Automotive industry, implemented as an extension and in combination with ISO 9001:2015. The IATF 16949 focuses on the ability to fulfill customer-specific requirements including verification of conformity with the specification.

The certification is the result of several years of inspecting Canatu’s process in mass-producing the most advanced carbon nanotubes for the automotive industry. The IATF standard takes in performance over multiple themes including customer requirements, production management and systematic quality thinking.

“The IATF certification further solidifies our role as a partner for the automotive industry in transforming the driving experience for a safer, more comfortable and reliable future. It is a confirmation for our high quality and large-scale mass production capabilities, which has been at the service of the automotive industry since 2015. Through the years we have refined our process, which is fine-tuned to ensure consistent quality,” says Canatu CEO Juha Kokkonen.

Today, Canatu mass-produces its products for three companies in the automotive and one in the semiconductor industries. Canatu has been mass manufacturing Canatu CNT since 2015 with the automotive industry and 2021 with the semiconductor industry having delivered over 600,000 sensors to date with the Field Return Rate (FRR) of zero. With scalable product platforms, Canatu has a solid core for applying Canatu CNT for various industries in an agile way.

“There is incredible momentum for nanotechnology, and companies are increasingly seeing its potential for the benefit of their business. Our focus at Canatu is in delivering the most advanced carbon nanotubes for industry-transforming products, spanning from high-performance ADAS heaters to 3D touch sensors and to EUV membranes. According to this, we naturally partner with forerunners who seek to redefine the field they work in,” Kokkonen continues.

The IATF standard specifies requirements for Automotive QMS covering multiple themes from customer requirements, product design, process approach, production management, leadership, risk management to systematic quality thinking within the organization.  Every mass production and R&D project are evaluated against the standard and customer specific requirements. Following a successful two stage audit, a certification to the standard was issued as an assurance Canatu fulfills both the standard and customer-specific requirements.
