AWC education director elected first female president of SEAOSC

Leesburg, Va. — American Wood Council's (AWC) Michelle Kam-Biron began her tenure as president of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC), serving for the 2015-16 term. Notably, she is the first female president of SEAOSC since its founding in 1929.

“It’s certainly not surprising that SEAOSC recognizes the leadership skills that Michelle consistently demonstrates and provides for AWC,” said AWC Vice President of Technology Transfer John “Buddy” Showalter. “We are pleased to share her talents and skills with such a respected organization.”

As AWC’s director of education, she is working to expand continuing education resources for architects, engineers and building officials. She has over 20 years of experience managing and designing a wide range of projects and serving as a California Division of State Architect contract plan reviewer.

Kam-Biron is a licensed structural engineer and received her bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She is a certified Earthquake Disaster Assessment volunteer and a member of the International Code Council. She also serves on the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations Basic Wood Education Committee and the American Society of Civil Engineers-Structural Engineering Institute Wood Education Committee. She is currently volunteer chair of the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo Architectural Engineering Advisory Board.
