ASME and SHPE Offer Reciprocal Membership Discounts

ASME and SHPE Offer Reciprocal Membership Discounts

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) have entered into an agreement to offer reciprocal membership discounts. Effective immediately, ASME members can also join SHPE for a 50% discounted price and vice versa.

“We are so pleased to formalize this collaboration with SHPE,” says ASME Executive Director/CEO Tom Costabile. “Both of our organizations understand that pursuing diversity in engineering and STEM fields ultimately leads to more innovation. We’re stronger together.”

The reciprocal membership discount is the first step in a collaboration between the two engineering societies with more announcements to come. Both organizations share a goal of advancing, disseminating, and applying engineering knowledge to improve the quality of life. These discounts allow ASME and SHPE members—especially early career engineers—the opportunity to participate in both organizations at a lower cost.

“It’s exciting to be taking SHPE’s relationship with ASME to the next level,” says SHPE CEO Chris Wilkie, Ph.D. “There is no denying ASME’s influence and significance within the engineering industry. And with 24% of our own membership specializing in mechanical engineering, I am hopeful the Hispanic community can join ASME in creating a future of diverse technical innovation nationally and worldwide. This partnership is a clear next step for both organizations.”

The SHPE member 50% discount is applicable to all member types of the ASME MemberCORE plan (student, early career engineer, and professional), but excludes the MemberLITE plan. The ASME member 50% discount is applicable to all SHPE membership types, except for Lifetime memberships.
