ASCE/SEI announces public comment period on professional standard

RESTON, VA. — The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE/SEI) has announced it will conduct a public comment period on the professional standard, Design of Steel Transmission Pole Structures. The public comment period will be held from August 2, 2010 through September 17, 2010.

The original development of this standard, Design of Steel Transmission Pole Structures (ASCE 48-05) originally published in 2005, became the primary resource for electric transmission professionals in the design and manufacture of steel transmission pole structures.

The standard specifies requirements for designing, fabricating, testing and assembling cold-formed tubular members and connections used for developing steel electrical transmission pole structures. It applies to structure components that are expected to withhold heavy design loads during limiting conditions described within the standards such as yielding, buckling and fractures.

To participate in the public comment period, please contact Lee Kusek, ASCE Codes & Standards Administrator at lkusek@asce.org or (703) 295-6176. For more information on this standard or ASCE’s standards program, please contact Leikny Johnson at ljohnson@asce.org or (703) 295-6413.
