Arup leader Brian Swett joins New England Aquarium Board of Trustees

Arup congratulates Brian Swett, Americas East Leader and Principal, for his appointment to the New England Aquarium Board of Trustees. Swett will support the aquarium in its mission to protect and care for ocean and marine animals and provide science-based solutions to help shape policies that create measurable change to address threats the ocean faces. 

Swett is a nationally recognized leader in climate change and sustainability, with more than 20 years of experience working with municipal governments, private sector real estate developers, federal governments, and nonprofits. Joining Arup in 2015, Swett combines his advanced business, policy, and science background to lead effective policy and program development and management addressing the built and natural environments.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be joining the Board of Trustees of the New England Aquarium and to have the opportunity to support its critical role in marine science and ocean conservation, both locally and around the world. Having grown up visiting the aquarium regularly and now privileged to be at Arup where sustainable development is our purpose, it is deeply meaningful to be joining this group of leaders that will guide its mission of ‘protecting the blue planet,’” said Brian Swett, Americas East Leader and Principal, Arup.

In addition to serving as the Chair of the Board of the Urban Land Institute’s Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate and as a Member of the Boston Green Ribbon Commission, Swett has been integral to numerous projects including Carbon Free Boston, the Massachusetts Decarbonization Roadmap, and the Lower Mystic Regional Critical Infrastructure Climate Risk Assessment.

“Our new slate of Trustees and Ambassadors represent a breadth of experience that touches on so many of the New England Aquarium’s key priorities from advocacy to climate change, conservation to equity. We are thrilled to have their expertise as we work to fulfill our mission as a nonprofit research and conservation organization,” said Thomas R. Burton III, a Boston-based Mintz attorney and Chair of the Board of Trustees.
