ARCADIS manages construction for largest cement plant in Northeast

Highlands Ranch, Colo. — ARCADIS will oversee construction on a multi-million dollar modernization project set to transform Lafarge North America Inc.’s Ravena cement plant – capable of producing more than 1 million tons of cement each year – into one of the most advanced dry-kiln facilities in the nation. The project will increase plant capacity, allowing Ravena to remain the highest-producing plant in the Northeastern U.S. and enabling Lafarge to continue to provide cement for the Freedom Tower, World Trade Center Memorial and more iconic buildings around the country.

ARCADIS will oversee the replacement of the existing 50-year old kiln equipment at the 3,200-acre site, supporting Lafarge’s commitment to quickly implement industry-leading mercury emissions caps. The improvements will further reduce sulfur dioxide and mercury emissions by an additional 20 percent over the next three years leading to an enhanced ecosystem and environment surrounding the plant. Slated for completion in 2016, the construction will create hundreds of jobs and retain over 100 current positions. From its New York locations, where it employs nearly 800 staff, ARCADIS is responsible for coordinating all aspects of construction including locating and purchasing materials, oversight of up to eight contractors, overall schedule coordination, management of materials, and security of the site.
