American Wood Council adds field staff

Leesburg, Va. — The American Wood Council (AWC) added two new field staff members to support its building codes and standards activities.

David P. Tyree, P.E., C.B.O., will begin as the Central regional manager on Oct. 16 and will be based out of Colorado Springs, Colo. Tyree brings with him more than 35 years of experience in the development, administration, enforcement and adoption of building codes. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Jim Smith, P.E., will start Oct. 20 as the Midwest regional manager, based in Dane, Wis. Smith has more than 40 years of experience in construction and engineering, including over 30 years with the State of Wisconsin’s Safety and Buildings Division. He has been the chief building official and zoning administrator for the city of Waukesha, Wis., since 2011. He received his degree in architectural technology from Madison Area Technical College.

“Dave and Jim bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with them,” said AWC Codes & Regulations Vice President Kenneth Bland, P.E. “Their addition to AWC’s field staff broadens our code coverage capabilities as we continue work to protect and expand recognition of wood products in model, state and local building codes.”
