AISI to co-sponsor 23rd Short Course on Cold-Formed Steel Structures

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) is working in cooperation with the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures at the Missouri University of Science and Technology to co-sponsor the 23rd Short Course on Cold-Formed Steel Structures at the Drury Plaza Hotel at the Arch in St. Louis, Missouri from October 15-17, 2013. The course provides 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

The Short Course provides information on the behavior of cold-formed steel members and connections for both commercial and residential applications, including wall studs, floor joists, purlins, girts, decks and panels. Held every two years, it is structured for engineers and other design professionals who are interested in learning about cold-formed steel design, regardless of experience. “This year’s Short Course will be of particular interest to the design community because it includes instruction on changes in the just-published 2012 edition of the AISI Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members and Commentary, and the eight AISI cold-formed steel framing standards,” said Jay Larson, P.E., F. ASCE, Managing Director, Construction Technical Program. “A preview of future Specification changes will also be offered. In addition to the technical sessions, there are several opportunities for networking. The Short Course is a tremendous opportunity for technology transfer that should not be missed.”

The Short Course instructors are Roger A. LaBoube, Ph.D., P.E., Curators’ Teaching Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology and Director of
the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures; and Sutton Stephens, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., Chief Structural Engineer at Pacific Northwest Engineering, Inc.
