AIA releases new IPD case studies

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Institute of Architects (AIA), in collaboration with AIA Minnesota and the University of Minnesota, School of Architecture, have produced case studies for construction projects that used the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) methodology. Each comprehensive case study examines 21 separate categories including project description, decision making, information sharing, building information modeling (BIM) elements and liability.

A wide range of projects were examined including the Cathedral Hill Hospital, MERCY Master Plan Facility Remodel, Lawrence & Schiller Remodel, SpawGlass Austin Regional Office and the Edith Green Wendell Federal Building Modernization, and can be accessed here.

The projects examined ranged in size and scope from a 7,000 square foot, $500,000 office remodel to an 858,000 square foot hospital that cost more than one billion dollars to design and build. Phase Two of the case studies will include extensive survey analysis of project team members and additional tracking of metrics. It will be completed by the end of 2011.

The Center for Integrated Practice (CIP) is an online clearinghouse that contains useful reports, relevant industry events, contractual information, podcasts and discussion forums. The purpose of the (CIP) is to help remove barriers to collaboration, serve as a collector and conductor of project delivery outcomes and research, and develop resources and tools for AIA members, the profession, and the public.
