AGA to host integrated seminar and tour for SteelDay 2010

HOUSTON — The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) has announced that on Sept. 24, 2010, architects, engineers, contractors, and others interested in the AEC community, will have an opportunity to peek behind the curtains of four local companies: AZZ Galvanizing, Southwest Galvanizing, Delta Steel, and Schuff Steel Co., as a part of the AGA’s SteelDay event.

Across the United States on Sept. 24, all facets of the steel industry will open their doors, hoping to open specifiers’ minds to the endless opportunities of designing with structural steel, AGA said. SteelDay 2010, hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), is an interactive networking day for the AEC community and general public to learn how the steel industry contributes to building America.

Steel fabricators, mills, service centers, galvanizers, HSS producers, and others in the industry will open their facilities, job sites, and offices to offer tours, continuing education credits, and a glimpse into the industry free of charge.

The AGA, a national SteelDay partner, will host two integrated events in Houston. The AGA will partner with AISC to present three hours of education (2 HSW and 1 SD) at the University of Houston beginning at 7:30 a.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. Following education, the first group will be taken to tour a fabrication facility, Schuff Steel, and galvanizer, AZZ Galvanizing-Houston.

The second group event begins at 10:30 a.m.; after lunch and education, attendees will be taken to tour local galvanizer, Southwest Galvanizing, and service center, Delta Steel. The events are free to attend, and breakfast and lunch are also included in the day’s activities.

For those outside the Houston area, AGA members are holding 49 SteelDay events in 21 states and one Canadian province. Galvanizer companies participating in SteelDay 2010 include: AZZ Galvanizing, Hubbell Galvanizing, Industrial Galvanizers, Corbec Corp., Metalplate Galvanizing, Sabre Galvanizing, Southwest Galvanizing, and Voigt & Schweitzer.
