AECOM appoints Eric P. Leitner as digital lead for its Building + Places business in Canada

Ottawa, Ontario — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced the appointment of Eric P. Leitner as digital lead for its Canadian Building + Places business. Mr. Leitner brings more than thirty years of expertise in building information modelling (BIM), virtual design construction (VDC), and project management, with extensive knowledge spanning multiple technical disciplines and software platforms. In addition, he is highly skilled in facilities management, building sciences, and many other aspects of building design and construction.

“With a goal of bridging the gap between infrastructure and technology, Eric’s mandate is to help us continue to deliver the right digital tools and solutions to our Buildings + Places clients,” said Walter Gaudet, senior vice president and lead of AECOM’s Canadian Buildings + Places business. “At AECOM, we’re constantly investing in our digital capabilities to deliver faster, smarter, and better options to support our clients’ needs. As a trusted advisor and digital expert to the architecture, engineering, and construction industry for many years, we’re thrilled to have Eric at the helm of this initiative.”

Prior to joining AECOM, Mr. Leitner served as a strategic advisor to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for a large space inventory project. Previously, he worked on the Warsaw Road Swing Bridge in Ontario, where he was tasked with creating a BIM Level of Development 400, fully parametric digital twin of the entire replacement bridge, which was predominantly built offsite using the digital model and assembled in place. The project also used multiple light detection and ranging (LiDAR) scans as well as both virtual and augmented reality technologies. Additionally, Mr. Leitner led the effort to modernize models on the Singapore Marina Bay Formula 1 Grand Prix racetrack, utilizing LiDAR scanning, geolocation, and dynamic blocks to accommodate last minute adjustments due to rapidly changing COVID protocols.

“I’m very passionate about working with clients to develop and implement integrated strategies that help accelerate their digital journeys,” said Mr. Leitner. “Being a part of the Digital AECOM team and working to tailor its vast offering of innovative products and digital services to respond to the specific needs of each client is very exciting. I look forward to collaborating with AECOM colleagues across the globe who understand both the urgency of the challenges facing the industry today and our responsibility to assist in an impactful and enduring way.”

Mr. Leitner is a certified project management professional with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Building Design and Construction accreditation (LEED AP BD+C). He has also achieved various certifications through the Construction Specifications Institute and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists.
