VHB ANNOUNCES EVOLUTION OF ORGANIZATION WITH NEW PIEDMONT ATLANTIC REGION & REGIONAL LEADERSHIP

New Regional Manager Roles for Joe Wanat & Fabricio Ponce Strengthens VHB for the Future

WATERTOWN, MA — VHB has created the Piedmont Atlantic Region to better serve clients and communities in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina while meeting the needs of these rapidly growing markets. With this exciting advancement, VHB has appointed two new Regional Managers. Fabricio Ponce has been named Piedmont Atlantic Regional Manager and Joe Wanat has been named Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, effective January 2026.

The Piedmont Atlantic Region will include five VHB offices across Georgia and North Carolina, staffing more than 250 employees. Fabricio Ponce, recognized for his deep understanding of market trends and client relationships, will lead this newly formed region. Since joining VHB in 2019, Fabricio tripled the Atlanta office’s size to over 125 professionals, driving growth through strategic acquisitions and project successes, including the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Safety Strategy and MARTA’s General Planning Consulting Services.

Joe Wanat, with more than 30 years at VHB, will oversee the Mid-Atlantic Region, encompassing 300 employees in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Joe has been pivotal in doubling the Metro DC office size and spearheading significant projects such as the DC Strategic Fleet Electrification Plan. Prior to leading the Metro DC offices, Joe served as Managing Director for VHB’s Providence Rhode Island office and Director of Transportation Planning & Operations in VHB’s Watertown office. Joe has 35 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve and is currently a Colonel at the Pentagon.

With Joe stepping into his new role, Nancy Barker, PWS, PWD, who has been serving as both Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager and Federal Market Leader, will now dedicate her full focus to advancing our Federal Market program.
