LDA earns public works project of year award for Pigeon Forge Reuse System

LDA Engineering has earned a statewide project of the year award from the Tennessee Chapter of American Public Works Association (TCAPWA) for its work on the City of Pigeon Forge Reuse System.

The 2024 Mark Miller Tennessee Public Works Project of the Year award recognizes a project that epitomizes outstanding planning, construction and management. LDA Engineering received the award at the TCAPWA annual conference in Chattanooga on Oct. 30.

“It’s gratifying to have our work recognized,” said Jason Brooks, CEO of LDA Engineering. “We are proud of this project, which makes a significant impact to conserve potable water and reflects Pigeon Forge’s commitment to responsible and sustainable growth.”

LDA Engineering led the reuse network expansion and storage tank project, which expanded the reuse water system to repurpose treated wastewater for large-scale irrigation consumers and conserve potable water for essential uses like drinking and sanitation. This reduces dependence on limited freshwater and provides considerable environmental benefits. By diverting treated water to the reuse system, the city of Pigeon Forge significantly reduced the amount of nitrogen-rich effluent being discharged into the local river, improving water quality and benefiting aquatic ecosystems.

The reuse system supports key tourism and recreation facilities, including Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort, Gatlinburg Golf Course, The Ripken Experience and LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. By providing a sustainable and cost-effective irrigation supply, the enhanced system helps ensure these important properties can continue to thrive without placing additional pressure on the city’s water resources.
