O’Donnell & Naccarato Celebrates Groundbreaking of Planned Expansion to Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill

Five-story, 102-bed tower and maternal health overbuild will bring increased capacity and services to Gloucester County facility 

Mullica Hill, New Jersey – O’Donnell & Naccarato (O&N), a leading and employee-owned structural engineering firm headquartered in Philadelphia, is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of a new five-story, 102-bed tower as part of a planned expansion to Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. 

The $157 million project, which also includes a separate, one-story overbuild to house Inspira’s maternal health services, will boost the hospital’s overall bed count by nearly half and increase Inspira’s footprint to more than 600,000 square feet on the 100-acre Gloucester County campus. 

A longtime partner of Inspira, O&N provided structural engineering services for the 467,000 square-foot main hospital building, which opened to patients in late 2019. At the time, O&N’s engineers outfitted Inspira’s state-of-the-art facility for an eventual expansion that would increase the hospital’s overall capacity, while maximizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness throughout the construction process.

The new bed tower, located toward the rear of the Mullica Hill facility, will employ the same structural system as the main hospital, with a steel frame and a composite concrete floor on a metal deck. The project will also cap a one-story vertical expansion on top of the hospital’s cafeteria and dining areas. The overbuild will tie into the roof of the existing building, which was designed with extended columns and a composite concrete slab that will be converted to the new floor. 

O&N is partnering with project manager Pure PM, general contractor TorconReisz, Array Architects, and MEP engineer Highland Associates on the project, which is slated for completion in early 2027.

The firm has previously provided structural engineering services for Inspira’s hospital campuses in Elmer, Salem, Vineland and Woodbury, as well as for the system’s various outpatient facilities throughout the state.
