McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Celebrates Topping out of LEGOLAND California Resort Parking Structure 2

$20M project allows theme park to provide ample parking during continued expansion

Carlsbad, Calif. – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (McCarthy), one of the largest and most diversified construction companies in America for over 160 years, today announced the topping out of the new LEGOLAND California Resort parking structure. The structure allows the LEGOLAND California Resort to increase parking accommodations for guests and facilitate park expansion and development with new attractions and offerings for visitors.

The four-story, 372,000 square-foot structure will feature 1,130 stalls, including 57 EV-ready stalls with the option to add an additional 56 EV stalls.

As the project was in development for several years, McCarthy leaned on its excellent partnership with the City of Carlsbad to ensure it moved forward with no issues. Additionally, one of the biggest challenges the team faced was ensuring park employees and patrons’ safety while building the structure. Having worked with LEGOLAND California Resort previously, including the existing employee parking structure and the Deep Sea Adventure ride, the firm is well versed in working outside an operating park with unmatched safety standards and operations.

McCarthy brings deep experience in parking services. For this structure, McCarthy utilized a new concrete maturity monitoring technology that features embedded sensors that guided the team and provided insights not generally available in traditional concreate pouring. McCarthy’s design-build services included preconstruction, marketing, scheduling, VDC, McCarthy Mapping, Castle Contracting, self-perform concrete, and yard site services.

“McCarthy is looking forward to the completion of the new LEGOLAND parking structure,” said Spencer Yoder, McCarthy Project Manager. “With this project we have been able to lean into our wide parking expertise but also incorporate new technologies that will change how parking structures are built in the future.”

McCarthy’s commitment to the community is unwavering and on this project the firm bolstered the local workforce, employing 17 local trade partners and consultants.

The project is slated for completion in late 2025.
