WSP Forms Strategic Alliance with Circa Technologies as part of Emerge Program Supporting Young Tech Companies

The program serves as a vehicle for WSP to forge strategic alliances with pioneering technology and product startups.

NEW YORK — WSP, a leading engineering, environment and professional services firm, selected Circa Technologies, Inc. for strategic alliance as part of Emerge. Launched in 2022, Emerge is WSP’s strategic alliance program for emerging technologies companies.

Based in New York, Circa is a startup focused on developing tools and data for life cycle assessment (LCA), which analyzes the potential environmental impacts of products and services during their entire life cycle.

“Through WSP’s Emerge program, our experts are partnering for LCA tools that are relevant to a wide-ranging audience of WSP clients and LCA practitioners,” said Pooja Jain, WSP senior vice president of sustainable strategic innovation and founder of Emerge.

“The Emerge program helps startups refine, optimize and scale their offerings, and integrate their value-added innovations into the broad-based consulting services that WSP provides to its clients and communities,” Jain said. “In turn, WSP provides our clients with transformational innovation and efficiency for maximum mutual benefit.”

Circa’s Library contains more than nine million data points and more than 1.2 million records, spanning material compositions, emission factors and whole LCAs. Data sources include the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; ecoinvent, an environmental organization in Switzerland; and the International; and the International EPD System, one of the largest program operators publishing Environmental Product Declarations.

Julie Sinistore, PhD, WSP vice president for climate change, leads this relationship as a WSP LCA subject matter expert.

“Our growing LCA practice will benefit greatly from this alliance,” Sinistore said. “It will enable the acceleration of the LCA process to acquire more actionable data to inform design decisions towards more sustainable products and services.”

“This alliance will greatly enhance scale and speed to deliver our sustainability consulting services,” said Lytle Troutt, senior vice president for WSP’s Earth and Environment business. “We are looking forward to growing our clients’ positive environmental impact on the planet with this alliance.”
