Woodard & Curran Names New Municipal Business Unit Leader

Tom Hazlett, PE Started with the Firm as an Intern in 2000

[Canton, MA] – Woodard & Curran recently announced the appointment of Tom Hazlett, PE as the next Municipal Business Unit Leader, a position formerly shared regionally by now President of Consulting Joe Barbagallo, PE, BCEE and CEO Alyson Watson, PE.

In 2000, Hazlett took a summer internship with Woodard & Curran as an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He returned during winter break the same year, leaving with a job awaiting him in the spring of 2001 after he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has since worked various positions, with increasing responsibility and leadership over the years, most recently serving as Director of Technical Practices for the firm’s water infrastructure practices. He said, “I’ve stayed at Woodard & Curran for over 20 years because the firm offers continuous opportunity for personal and professional growth.”

“I look forward to building on the success that Alyson Watson and Joe Barbagallo have developed as leaders of the Municipal business units,” said Hazlett. “I am fortunate to take the helm of a united Municipal business unit that is already thriving and continue to take us to the next level. We have really ambitious goals as a company, and what keeps me excited is that everybody is invested in becoming the best privately held firm in the environmental consulting space.”

Barbagallo led the Municipal & Institutional strategic business unit from 2014 to 2020. Watson led Municipal West strategic business unit from 2016, following the acquisition of RMC Water and Environment, until taking the CEO role at the beginning of 2021. Hazlett’s new role marks the unification of the two strategic business units under one Municipal umbrella.

“Tom possesses the ability to develop a vision, engage teams in support of that vision, and collaboratively work across the company to achieve strategic goals,” said Barbagallo. “He believes the key to success is a highly engaged workforce consisting of people who feel empowered and are supported to be creative and to do the right thing by our clients. Tom will bring his passion for people across the nation, along with his energy and knack for fostering innovation, to develop and implement forward looking growth strategies with an unwavering commitment to Woodard & Curran’s people first mission and values.”
