Freese and Nichols Expands Construction Services and Water/Wastewater Planning Team in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. – Freese and Nichols, Inc., continues to grow in North Carolina with the addition of Construction Manager Matt Cartwright, PE, and Kristen Cartwright, PE, a Water/Wastewater Master Planning Project Engineer.

The Cartwrights, who have joined the Raleigh office, deepen the expertise available to meet the needs of clients throughout the Southeast region.

Matt Cartwright is a Freese and Nichols Associate with more than 16 years of experience and will lead the firm’s construction services team in providing management, inspection, constructability reviews, cost estimating and other services in North Carolina and across the Southeast.

“Matt is a proven leader who provides focus, consistency and high quality,” said Mike Wayts, North Carolina Division Manager for Freese and Nichols.

Matt Cartwright’s expertise covers a wide range of disciplines, including water and sewer lines, pump stations and lift stations, membrane treatment plants, water and wastewater treatment plants, elevated and ground storage tanks, and general site development. He is NACE certified to provide coating inspections as well as inspection training.

He currently is project manager for a team providing on-call services to the City of Durham. He also is assisting with development of a new elevated storage tank for the City of Hickory and with construction of sanitary sewer service at the Moncure Megasite for the City of Sanford.

Kristen Cartwright has provided master planning at Freese and Nichols for more than six years and developed more than 30 water/wastewater/reuse master plans, CIPs, impact fees and water quality studies. She has developed and updated multiple water/wastewater models using steady-state, extended-period simulation (EPS) and dynamic modeling and is proficient in WaterGEMS, InfoWater, SewerGEMS, InfoSewer and InfoWorks ICM. She is active in the American Water Works Association.

She currently is assistant project manager on a water quality study for the City of Sanford and is involved in a hydraulic modeling assessment of the wastewater collection system serving South Durham for the City of Durham Department of Water Management.

Both Cartwrights most recently worked for Freese and Nichols in the Houston area.
