Terracon receives ASCE Outstanding Employer Recognition Award

Olathe, Kan. — Terracon Consultants, Inc., was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Employer Recognition Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Committee of Younger Members (CYM). This recognition is given to outstanding employers who supports professionals early in their careers and encourages their involvement in ASCE activities.

“Terracon’s dedication to young civil engineers through their promotion of continuing education, support of Society involvement, and outreach into local community activities, aligns with ASCE’s goals of developing people, advancing the profession of civil engineering, and serving the public good,” said Leslie Payne, Director of Student and Younger Member Programs at ASCE.

Terracon places a high priority on continuing education by covering up to 90 percent of the tuition expenses for approved coursework. They also cover the costs of registration and preparation of material for young professionals taking the P.E. exam. Additionally, an award of up to $1,000 can be earned for writing technical papers and articles for professional conference proceedings or journals. Terracon encourages employees to present a single topic paper at least twice per year.

Terracon encourages young engineers to be involved in professional societies by covering national and local fees. Specifically, Terracon covers Society and Section dues for young engineers involved with ASCE. Travel is supported for Society events, such as the Central Region Multi Regional Leadership Conference, Emerging Leaders Alliance Workshop, and Section and Branch Leaders Workshop.

Through its young professional staff, Terracon has presented programs about engineering and science to local community groups and led a Geotechnical Engineering Tour in Kansas City for local university students.
