COLUMBIA Technologies launches Certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis Services

Baltimore — COLUMBIA Technologies launched its Certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis Services offering. Now, COLUMBIA Technologies can bring a fully equipped and professionally staffed environmental analysis facility to any customer location, for rapid, reliable and certified onsite analysis of volatile organic compound (VOC) contaminants in vapor, soil and groundwater.

National and state certifications for the new Mobile Laboratory Analysis Services offering include:

  • National Environmental Laboratory Conference (NELAC)
  • Department of Defense Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOD-ELAP)
  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO) ISO 17025
  • Florida Department of Health (FDOH)
  • North Carolina Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (NCDENR)
  • Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (VELAP)

“With these nationally certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis services, we can provide even more high quality lines of evidence to support customers’ site assessments and remedial design and optimization efforts,” said COLUMBIA Technologies CEO John H. Sohl, III. “And by combining these lab capabilities with our other high-resolution remedial design characterization technologies, we greatly increase customers’ ability to understand their liability and monetize the value of their sites.”

To that end, direct integration of COLUMBIA Technologies’ Certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis services with the company’s proprietary, cloud-based SmartData Solutions process significantly reduces the time required to detect, map and track subsurface contamination and develop a long-term strategy to manage and monetize even the most environmentally challenged site. Rather than waiting for returns from a fixed laboratory, customers can view a greater range of easy to interpret GIS-based information in a browser, ask questions while performing their own investigation and analysis, and make technical, business and budget decisions in less time. Preliminary data reports are provided hourly and daily in an electronic spreadsheet. NELAC certified final data reports, which are submitted both electronically and in hard copy, are generally provided to customers within five days of demobilization.

COLUMBIA Technologies gained its Certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis capabilities and technologies by acquiring the assets of KB Mobile Labs, of Newberry, Fla. Robert George, previously Quality Assurance Manager at KB, continues his 45-year environmental sciences career in that same capacity at COLUMBIA Technologies.

“We’re proud to support our clients’ real property remediation and monetization objectives on-site with a senior field chemist of Bob’s talent, experience and stature,” said Sohl. “With Bob and the previous KB Mobile Labs capabilities now part of the Columbia Technologies’ team, enhanced with our extensive intellectual property and best practices, we can offer our clients a broader range of services across a wider range of territories.” In particular, Sohl noted, the acquisition of KB Labs gives COLUMBIA Technologies a larger presence in the southeast United States.

Analyses capabilities offered through Mobile Labs include:

  • Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) Volatiles (Method 8260)
  • GC Volatiles (Method 8021)
  • Total Recoverable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TRPH) / Diesel Range Organics (DRO) / Gasoline Range Organics (GRO)
  • Chlorinated solvents
  • Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE)
  • Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX)
  • Naphthalenes (Including 1-&2-methylnaphthalene)
  • 1,4 Dioxane low level
  • Water, soil, and soil gas matrices

In addition to the new certified Mobile Laboratory Analysis capabilities, COLUMBIA Technologies already offered a variety of rapid onsite analytical screening tools also approved by several state agencies.
