DDG green city project outside of Shanghai nears completion

Baltimore — While construction is still underway on portions of its residential community, the retail district of Suzhou Dushuhu — a spectacular new development designed by U.S.-based design, planning, architecture, interiors, and graphics firm DDG — has just been completed and is now open for business.

Suzhou Dushuhu is the centerpiece of a master-planned “green city” located adjacent to Dushuhu Lake, about a one-hour drive outside of Shanghai, China. Suzhou Dushuhu’s retail district includes a 43,056-square-foot shopping center and retail district, complete with an iconic four-story light tower beacon positioned to direct sightlines to serene views of the lake beyond.

Designed by DDG for developers Rama Property Development of Shanghai and SIP Company, Ltd of Singapore, the new residential community consists of three large parcels, all with prime views of the nearby lake. The project’s 36 residential towers range in size from 12 to 19 stories high and contain nearly 1,000 luxury condominium-style units.

“The residential towers and light tower beacon are distinguished by contemporary architectural styling with a Chinese Art Deco design influence, featuring limestone building materials and aluminum accent panels,” explains DDG Chairman and CEO Ahsin Rasheed.

Rasheed notes that residents will also enjoy the convenience of two levels of underground parking which runs beneath much of the site and has room to accommodate approximately 1,700 vehicles.

“With no surface parking, the surrounding landscape is free to feature the designated open park spaces and gardens, befitting the community’s green-city context,” Rasheed says. The grounds are united by a network of lakes, streams, and canals that conceptually connect the project to the lakefront. Both the gardens and community water features are designed to include historically and culturally significant Chinese motifs.
