JQ tapped as structural engineer for Dallas pump station

Dallas — The Dallas office of JQ has been tapped to provide structural engineering services for the Walnut Hill Pump Station, an inline booster pumping facility located in Dallas that is owned and operated by Dallas Water Utilities, according to JQ principal Christopher N. Story, P.E.

“This is Dallas Water Utilities’ first facility to utilize the progressive design-build process,” says Story “which will benefit the City by enabling a more efficient and reduced risk project delivery method to maximize its short and long-term life cycle cost benefits. At the same time, this process will accelerate project completion which benefits their customer cities.”

Originally built in 1949 and renovated in 1985, the Walnut Hill Booster Pump Station No. 1 consists of two 10 MGD pumping units.  It operates independently of Booster Pump Station No. 2 which was built on the site in 1999 and consists of three 10 MGD pumping units.

The project includes performing site evaluations, developing a technical memorandum, providing conceptual design documents and preparing procurement documents to support a progressive design build project delivery that addresses the physical and operational deficiencies of the existing facility.

Additional tasks include assisting the utility with construction administration and quality control.  Nathan D. Maier Consulting Engineers, Inc., a multi-disciplined civil engineering and survey firm, is the consulting engineer of record. Design start date is in March 2015 with completion slated for September 2017.
