Michigan Avenue Bridge turns 90

CHICAGO — Friday, May 14, Friends of the Chicago River will hold a 90th birthday party for the Michigan Avenue Bridge, “the great double-leaf, double-deck trunnion bascule bridge that provides an essential link between the Loop and the North Michigan Avenue shopping district,” Chicago Tribune’s Blair Kamin said.

The party for the bridge will be held at the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum, which is located at the southwest end of the bridge. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the museum will open for a free season preview.

Remarks by dignitaries start at 10 a.m. After, visitors can blow out the candles on a bridge birthday cake provided by Chicago’s Swedish Bakery.
