CH2M HILL to provide engineering design and support services for Rockaway Boardwalks reconstruction

DENVER — CH2M HILL was recently awarded a $8.1 million contract by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to provide all of the required services to design boardwalks, amenities, and protective structures along the 4.7-mile shoreline of the Rockaway Peninsula, in Queens, N.Y.

Sustaining severe damage during Hurricane Sandy, Rockaway’s beach, boardwalk, and adjoining waterfront structures will be rebuilt through the Rockaway Boardwalk Project. As the lead consultant, CH2M HILL will work with NYCEDC and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation to design boardwalks and associated access points from Beach 20th Street to Beach 126th Street to be more storm resilient and compatible with beach replenishment projects currently being undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

“This is a high-profile, important, fast-track project that is an integral piece of the post-Sandy recovery,” stated Jonathan Goldstick, CH2M HILL project manager. “Leveraging our global waterfront experience, we look forward to providing the local community and its visitors an efficient, attractive, sustainable boardwalk that supports their waterfront needs for years to come.”

CH2M HILL will work alongside a number of highly-qualified specialty consultants with successful waterfront experience. The core subconsultants include the RBA Group (landscape architecture and civil engineering), WXY (master planning and architecture), and AKRF (permitting).

CH2M HILL has a long-standing history of work with the NYCEDC and has supported many post-Hurricane Sandy efforts.
