FST acquires DeLuca Hoffman Associates

BURLINGTON, MASS. — Fay, Spofford & Thorndike, Inc. (FST) acquired DeLuca Hoffman Associates, Inc. (DHAI), a 22-person civil and environmental engineering company based in South Portland, Maine. The acquisition strengthens FST’s core civil engineering, planning and environmental consulting services, while helping to bolster its existing portfolio in municipal, commercial, institutional and certain transportation markets. The addition of DHAI also builds upon FST’s fast-growing presence in Northern New England, as FST will merge its Maine operations into the DHAI office in South Portland.

“From our first meeting with Bill Hoffman, we could clearly see how our service and market strengths complement one another,” says Peter J. Howe, P.E., FST President and CEO. “Even more, the personnel, corporate culture and business outlook of the two companies are very similar. It’s a great match for both companies.”

Founded in 1986 by Bill Hoffman and Mike DeLuca, DHAI serves a diverse base of municipal and private clients. In addition to numerous cities and towns throughout New England, the firm has a long history of working with state and county agencies, as well as with a variety of private clients. The staff’s capabilities include civil engineering design, site development and utilities design, airport engineering, site feasibility and selection analysis, stormwater management analysis and design, sustainable design, development permitting and construction administration/oversight.

“This is a great strategic move for our organization,” says Bill Hoffman, P. E., who joins FST as a Vice President and Associate. “FST may be much larger than DHAI, but our firms have the same focus on providing our clients with the highest level of service delivered by the most qualified technical professionals. I don’t think that we, collectively, could have asked for a better partner to take us to the next phase of our professional careers.”

DHAI will immediately begin operating under the FST brand, but will retain its office space at 778 Main Street in South Portland. Paul Pottle, who heads FST’s Maine office, will be located at this office as well.
