GEI opens Manhattan office

BOSTON — GEI Consultants, Inc. opened an office in Lower Manhattan to support growth and expansion of its geotechnical, geostructural, instrumentation and monitoring, and environmental investigation and remediation services. It appointed Peter Heynen, P.E., to manage the office.

The company is experiencing strong demand for its consulting engineering and services as it expands its presence in the City. “GEI has been active in the New York City metro market for many years,” said Fred Johnson, GEI senior vice president and east region manager. “Recent and ongoing geotechnical engineering and related major project work such as at The World Trade Center site, at Columbia University, and for NYC Transit, as well as environmental investigation and remediation projects across the City support the establishment of a permanent presence. With Peter Heynen leading the charge, GEI will continue to provide innovative and cost effective approaches to our clients’ geotechnical and environmental needs in the New York City and metro area.”

Peter Heynen P.E., a senior geotechnical practice leader with more than 35 years of experience most recently led the geotechnical group in Connecticut while taking on oversight of the firm’s expansion in the New York City and metropolitan area, including the five boroughs, Long Island, and southern Connecticut. Heynen is a licensed professional engineer in eight states. He has provided services for all phases of projects including planning, investigation, design, construction and operation for a broad range of assignments including buildings, bridges, tunnels, roads, railroads, airport, dams, levees, pipelines, landfills, utilities, mines, harbors, brownfield sites and environmental remediation projects. In 2010, Heynen was recognized as a Life Member by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The company’s 2012 acquisition of Long Island-based EEA, Inc. added numerous projects to GEI’s New York City and metro project portfolio. Legacy EEA core services include real estate property due diligence, natural resource and marine studies, environmental modeling and management, and environmental and ecological services supporting energy generation. GEI will continue to highlight its geotechnical services in this region as the firm continues to expand its New York metro footprint.
