3D laser scanning mobile-device app wins IF DESIGN Award

Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 app wins second award for design

Heerbrugg, Switzerland  Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, announced the Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 laser scanning mobile-device app won an iF DESIGN AWARD 2019.

Along with user-experience (UX) company Ergosign, Leica Geosystems submitted the app under the category of communication.  For 66 years, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been recognised as an arbiter of quality for exceptional design. The Cyclone FIELD 360 app was selected by a 67-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, from among 6,375 entries from 52 countries.

“This recognition is an honour and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our team to provide the best user experience possible,” said Gerhard Walter, product manager for Cyclone FIELD 360. “We developed the Cyclone FIELD 360 app for users of any skill set to ensure they could easily and efficiently capture and work with their laser scanning data.“

The link between scanner and software
The Cyclone FIELD 360 mobile-device app is a fundamental element of the Leica RTC360 3D reality capture solution. The app forms a link between 3D data collection in the field using the Leica RTC360 laser scanner and data registration in the office using the Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 post-processing software. It lets the user automatically collect, register and review scanned and image data on site using a tablet. As a result, the system provides a positive user experience in the field of 3D reality capture even to inexperienced users.

“Good design can only be achieved through good cooperation with technical experts and future users. We were able to experience this in this project,” said Toni Steimle, UX Director & Head of Site Ergosign Zürich.
