Firm’s Sacramento Office Leader is Giving Back to the Industry

Caitlin Stevenson has a lot on her professional plate as a senior associate, project director and the leader of Taylor Design’s fast-growing Sacramento office. Yet, her boundless energy and enthusiasm for healthcare facility planning and design inspire her to contribute her knowledge and time to several causes that benefit the industry’s greater good. Here are three recent examples:

2024 ElevateHER Cohort & Symposium

Stevenson was also selected to the Zweig Group’s ElevateHER cohort, an impressive roster of 17 women focused on developing pragmatic solutions to the AEC industry’s recruitment and retention crisis. The group met in-person for the first time in March at the ElevateHER® Symposium to kick off their mission-driven journey. At the ElevateAEC Conference in September, the group will present a keynote on the topic of Sustainable AEC Workforce Solutions.

“I’m honored to be part of this curious and ambitious group, and I’m looking forward to the meaningful collaboration ahead. It’s energizing to be part of a like-minded group who is passionate about increasing equity within our unique industry. I’m thankful that Taylor Design is supporting my participation in this year’s cohort,” Stevenson said.

AIA Central Valley Board of Directors

California’s Central Valley chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA-CV) named Stevenson, AIA, Assoc. DBIA, EDAC, to the group’s board of directors for a two-year term. Stevenson, a Sacramento native and accomplished healthcare architect, has been an active AIA member for over a decade, and has previously served on the AIA-CV Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee.

“The AIA Central Valley plays an important role in connecting our design community and strengthening our peer networks, so I’m excited to engage as a member of the board,” says Stevenson. “The organization does so much to advocate for our profession and elevate our collective voice, and I look forward to contributing my energy and ideas to further the chapter’s impact.”

Women’s Leadership Presentation at DBIA Western Region Conference

In May, Stevenson served on a panel at the Design-Build Institute of America’s Western Region Conference on the topic of “Women Leaders Leveraging Diversity in Design & Construction.” The session explored topics that aren’t discussed often enough within our industry, such as balancing career and family, the impact of age and gender biases on professional credibility, leveraging professional networks to build genuine industry relationships, and diverse leadership styles that promote collaboration. As Stevenson reflected, “I was grateful to speak amongst a powerhouse group of women who represent the highest levels of leadership in our AEC industry. The emphasis on leading with empathy really resonated with me, and I appreciated the enthusiastic discussion around how to best champion an inclusive working environment for our integrated project teams.”

Since joining Taylor Design as a BIM Specialist in 2014, Caitlin has risen rapidly through the organization to her current role as Senior Associate, Project Director and Sacramento Office Leader. She specializes in complex healthcare projects that range from campus-wide master planning projects and phased inpatient renovations within active hospital departments, to new ground-up construction and outpatient clinic renovations.

Caitlin’s career is marked by a passion to apply rigorous design methodology to improve the end-user experience and patient outcomes. Her recent work has focused on long-range planning efforts, guiding organizations through a strategic analysis of future facility and space needs to correspond with their projected clinical growth. Caitlin’s clients include major healthcare organizations such as UC Davis Health, Sutter Health, UCSF Health, Kaiser Permanente, Stanford Health Care, CommonSpirit Health, and the County of San Mateo Health System.

A registered architect in California, Caitlin holds a degree in architecture and urban studies from Princeton University and a master’s in architecture from UC Berkeley. She is also a certified evidence-based design practitioner (EDAC) and a design-build professional (Assoc. DBIA).
