The New Jersey Innovation Institute, in conjunction with Brownfields Listings, is sponsoring Brightfields 2018, a one-day, national solar energy development event designed for all those interested in advancing solar energy on brownfields and landfills.
A new battery energy storage system is now online at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority’s wastewater treatment plant in Atlantic City, N.J. The system captures up to one megawatt hour of energy produced by the site’s 7.5-megawatt wind farm and 500 kilowatts from solar panels, storing it to be used when needed.
The United States could reliably meet about 80 percent of its electricity demand with solar and wind power generation, according to scientists at the University of California, Irvine; the California Institute of Technology; and the Carnegie Institution for Science.
