Wayne Swafford named president of LAN

Houston — Planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) announced Wayne Swafford, P.E., SE, as its new president. Swafford, who joined LAN last April as the firm’s executive vice president, will be responsible for the firm’s direction and operation. Dennis Petersen, who served as the firm’s president for the last 20 years, will continue to serve as the president of LEO A DALY, LAN’s parent company.

“In a short span of 10 months, Wayne has done a phenomenal job of analyzing, understanding and implementing new organizations and processes that continue to enhance the firm’s positive trajectory,” said Petersen. “He has earned the confidence of the firm, and his leadership will push us all to greater achievements.”

A structural engineer with more than 30 years of experience, Swafford has managed the operations and finances of several organizations. Previously, he served Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc. as its vice president of facility operations where he was responsible for the planning, design and construction of a $1 billion multi-year capital program. In addition, he was responsible for the operations of 140 facilities. Prior to that, he served AECOM Technology Corporation as a senior vice president responsible for planning and design of transportation infrastructure in the Midwest, Southeast and Eastern United States. He also served as a principal at Teng & Associates.

Swafford holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He served UIUC’s civil engineering department as an alumni board advisor for nearly a decade. He also has served professional organizations in various capacities, including chairing American Society of Civil Engineers’ transportation and project management groups in Chicago, and as a vice president and board of director of the American Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois.
