Transportation and BIM webcast series

DEERFIELD, ILL. — CE News and Rebuilding America’s Infrastructure are presenting a series of four, one-hour-long webcasts focused on the use of BIM for transportation design projects. The following webcasts are sponsored by Autodesk:

The Future of Civil Design & Construction with BIM (March 11, 2010 — 1 p.m. EST, 12 p.m. CST, 10 a.m. PST) — This webcast will lay the groundwork for the series. The process of civil engineering design and heavy construction, especially for roads, highways, and urban transportation projects, is being transformed. This shift is having a dramatic impact on design and construction processes and on what owners are looking for from consultants. In this webcast attendees will learn about the changes in the industry and how an organization can leverage BIM to address them. Click here to register.

Visualizing Civil Designs with the Power of BIM (June 10, 2010 — 1 p.m. EDT, 12 p.m. CDT, 10 a.m. PDT) — Every design has a story to tell, and design visualization is the key to telling that story in a compelling fashion. Whether you are taking designs through review and approval processes or soliciting public comment, impressive design visualizations can make a difference. And, working in a BIM environment makes using visualization as part of the design process much more accessible. Through project examples, attendees can learn how design visualization plays a role throughout a project from exploring project alternatives, to validating designs, to communicating design intent to project stakeholders, to winning more work for an organization. Leveraging BIM for Workflows that Cross CADD Boundaries (July 29, 2010 — 1 p.m. EDT, 12 p.m. CDT, 10 a.m. PDT) — Engineers obtain 2D and 3D data from many sources, including utility companies, government agencies, and private stakeholders. This webcast will show how to work in a mixed software environment that uses and integrates data from many sources and types. Hear from industry experts and practitioners about how they assimilate information from different platforms to create a coordinated, consistent model that is used for design, analysis, and simulation. BIM and Sustainability for Roadway Drainage Design (Oct. 21, 2010 — 1 p.m. EDT, 12 p.m. CDT, 10 a.m. PDT) — While much of the focus on sustainable design practices has been on buildings, the civil engineering community is showing it can make significant contributions to diminishing the environmental impact of the built environment, particularly roads and highways. In this presentation, presenters will discuss key trends in sustainable design, review sustainable design approaches, and show how working in a BIM environment enhances the delivery of more sustainable designs. Through examples, attendees will see how working in a model-based environment facilitates the drainage design process, one of the ways engineers can impact the sustainability of roads and highways.
