Three HNTB projects receive National Design-Build Award

KANSAS CITY, MO. — HNTB received three National Design-Build Awards from the Design-Build Institute of America for its work on the London Road Water Treatment Facility in Boggstown, Ind., the Fort Lee, Va., Central Campus, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Omaha, Neb.

The awards were announced at the 2010 Design-Build Conference and Expo Oct. 19 in Las Vegas.

• Water/Wastewater Under $25 Million National Design-Build Award — Owned by Indiana-American Water, the London Road Water Treatment Facility in Boggstown, Ind., received LEED Silver certification for its sustainability efforts. Partnered with Bowen Engineering Corp. as the design-builder, HNTB Corp. served as the architect and engineer for this project.
• Public Sector Over $50 Million Design-Build Merit Award — HNTB Federal worked with Balfour Beatty Construction on the first phase of the Central Campus for the U.S. Army Ordnance School at Fort Lee, Va. HNTB served as the architect on the five-building, 26-month project, which provides facilities for maintenance training on vehicles, and houses the largest welding training lab in the United States.
• Public Sector Under $25 Million Design-Build Merit Award — Working with APAC-Kansas Inc., HNTB Corp. served as the design lead on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. Spanning 2,222 feet over the Missouri River and connecting Omaha, Neb., to Council Bluffs, Iowa, it is one of the longest pedestrian bridges ever designed and constructed. The bridge was part of a $2 billion infrastructure redevelopment project by the city of Omaha, which transformed its downtown from an industrial area to an urban destination.
