Software migration challenges

If you’re contemplating migrating to Autodesk’s Civil 3D software, take the time to participate in an upcoming monthly webcast, Chronicles of Civil 3D, Part 4 (register here), this Friday, Oct. 27, from noon to 1:00 p.m. (EDT). The five-part webcast series has been following the successes and challenges encountered by Sitelines, a small civil engineering firm in Maine, as it deploys Autodesk Civil 3D while trying to complete a new commercial subdivision design project on time and within budget. The live webcast provides perspectives on the migration process from both the designer and the firm’s vice president, and also covers practical topics such as road design, generating parcels, and laying out utilities.

For example, in Chronicles of Civil 3D, Part 3, Sitelines’ Civil Designer Darlene Estabrook discussed the challenges she has had, working for a small engineering firm, in finding the time to learn Civil 3D while facing in-house IT problems and other project responsibilities. In particular, she said, time is required to set up styles and to explore new features, tools, and options.

Previous webcasts in the series, which began in July, as well as Sitelines’ unedited blog about the migration process, can be accessed online at https://www.deploy3d.com/news.php . The series is expected to conclude with a live segment at Autodesk University in Las Vegas.
