Roebling legacy continues to inspire with Build-A-Bridge Campaign

Roebling, N.J. — For the last five years, the Roebling Museum has been a destination point for people of all ages to learn about American industry, engineering, and the people who built some of the most inspiring works the world has seen. The museum offers a glimpse into the lives of factory workers, their families, and educates visitors on the groundbreaking innovations of the Roebling family, whose ingenuity changed the industrialized world and led to the construction of structures like the Brooklyn Bridge, the George Washington Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Now, in an effort to ensure the Roebling legacy endures, the Roebling Museum will launch the Build-A-Bridge Campaign. During this campaign, the Museum will create a scaled tribute to the Golden Gate Bridge, which John A. Roebling's Sons provided the steel cables for, so that future generations have the opportunity to learn and be inspired.

Throughout the year the Roebling Museum educates students from primary school to college, as well as the community at large, on engineering and industry by sharing the experiences of the Roeblings and the community they established on the shores of the Delaware River. The Build-A-Bridge Campaign will allow sponsors and donors the opportunity to play a part in this legacy while also helping them leave their mark on history.

With several levels sponsorship available, ranging from $10 to a corporate level of $20,000, the public, and leading businesses and organizations, are presented the opportunity to have their names added to this special tribute to the Golden Gate Bridge. “We want our supporters to be a part of the legacy left by the Roeblings and the people who worked here. The example they provided in the fields of engineering, technology, and industry serve as a key resource for the public and continues to serve as an inspiration.” Museum Executive Director John Seitter said. “This project ensures that we keep that legacy alive.”

This 80-foot structure will stand as a testament to the greatness of the engineers who continue to inspire us. The project was designed by local craftsman Michael Waite and will be built by Michael and his son Robert, using historic pieces of Roebling steel cable. With a target completion date of May 2015 the bridge will serve as a permanent part of the museum's collection.

“Our goal is not to simply build a tribute of one of the most well-known bridges in the world. It’s to make sure that we don’t end there; to keep the dreams of great engineers like John Roebling alive.” Seitter said. “The Build-A-Bridge campaign is not only part of our past, it is a part of our future.”
