Rhode Island Becomes 41st State to Recognize NPCA’s Plant Certification Program

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation recently approved the National Precast Concrete Association’s Plant Certification program as an accepted quality certification option for manufactured precast concrete facilities in the state. 

Rhode Island joins 40 other states and more than 75 municipalities in recognizing NPCA certification when specifying construction projects. 

NPCA’s Plant Certification program is dedicated to increasing the quality of precast concrete products and assisting specifiers in obtaining these products. Since 1987, NPCA experts have helped businesses to continually monitor, manage and improve the quality of their products.

“NPCA’s industry-leading certification program will benefit Rhode Island residents by ensuring that precast concrete plants consistently provide best-in-class products to meet the needs of infrastructure, road, bridge and general contracting projects across the state,” NPCA President and CEO FRED GRUBBE said.

Plants are evaluated on product quality, documentation, procedures, management, personnel training and equipment. NPCA certifies the processes involved in the manufacturing of all precast concrete products, including stormwater concrete pipe, sanitary concrete pipe, manholes, box culverts, septic tanks, grease interceptors and more.

The NPCA Certification program includes unannounced inspections by third-party consulting engineers, which are required annually to maintain status. In 2022, NPCA certified 381 U.S. facilities.
