TRANSPORTATION
The Miami-Date Expressway Authority awarded a contract to PB for construction engineering and inspection services for an improvement project on the Miami-Dade Expressway. The $32 million project involves reconstruction at the northbound Kendall Drive on-ramp to SR 874, approximately 10 miles south of Miami International Airport, including construction of a twin steel box girder bridge approximately 2,220 feet long with 10 concrete piers, concrete barrier walls, retaining and sound walls, drainage, overhead sign structures, signing, landscaping, and lighting.

The Georgia Department of Transportation chose STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates to lead a design team for a roadway improvement project in Fayette County. Estimated to cost $30 million to construct, the project involves widening a seven-mile-long section of SR 85. The corridor includes two stream crossings and 15 intersections.

The Quality Enterprises USA, Inc./AVCON, Inc. Design/Build Team was selected by the Florida Department of Transportation—District One for construction of two sets of passing lanes on SR 70 in Desoto County. The team of design consultants will be led by AVCON, which will perform project management and highway/roadway design.

The Texas Department of Transportation named PBS&J as the general engineering consultant for the Texas Grand Parkway, the state’s proposed, 180-mile scenic highway traversing seven counties and encircling the greater Houston region. PBS&J will provide professional project management services and coordinate project development activities, including financial plan analysis, working with segment engineers to produce approved environmental documents, schematic designs, coordinating right-of-way maps, and participating in the public review process.

Washington Group International received an award from the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas, to provide project development, preliminary engineering, and early construction for the first phase of an expansion project that includes 20 miles of guided rapid transit in four corridors and an intermodal terminal in Houston’s urban core.

WASTEWATER
Earth Tech and joint-venture partner Servicios de Agua Trident were awarded a $32.8 million contract to design, build, finance, and operate a wastewater treatment facility in Querétaro, Mexico. The 17.1 million-gallon-per-day (mgd) San Pedro Mártir plant, as well as a sanitation collection system leading to the facility, will take two years to design and build. Earth Tech will operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant, including biosolids disposal, for 18 years.

Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc., was selected by the city of Rosenberg, Texas, to provide engineering services related to expanding and improving the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2. The proposed expansion will increase the plant’s current average daily flow capacity from 3.0 mgd to 4.5 mgd, and its two-hour peak flow rate from 9.0 mgd to 18.0 mgd. Construction of the approximately $10.5 million project is expected to be completed by April 2009.
