WASTEWATER
Fayetteville, Ark., awarded RJN a $6 million contract to design a 15-inch through 24-inch sewer interceptor and a 6 million-gallon-per-day (mgd) lift station and force main. RJN will also be responsible for construction administration and inspection services.

Fillmore, Calif., awarded American Water a contract to design, build, and operate (DBO) the city’s new wastewater recycling facility. The plant will be designed initially to treat 1.8 mgd of wastewater and have the capability for future expansion. Boyle Engineering Corporation and Kennedy Jenks Consultants, Inc., also will be involved with the project. Under terms of the DBO contract, American Water will design and build the new facility during the next two years and operate it for 20 years.

Tetra Tech, Inc., was selected to provide up to $20 million of wastewater-related, as-needed professional consulting services to the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati during the next two years. Tetra Tech’s first task is the design of the Columbia Parkway Combined Storm Sewer Separation Project to prevent combined sewer overflows and sanitary sewer overflows.

TRANSPORTATION
AVCON, Inc., was selected by Seminole County, Fla.’s Public Works Department to provide final design services for widening Markham Woods Road to three lanes within the existing right-of-way. AVCON will be responsible for final engineering design plans and documents, comprising typical sections, roadway plans and profiles, drainage plans, cross sections, signing and pavement marking plans, utility adjustments, project design criteria, and design calculations.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority Board selected two environmental/engineering teams that will lead efforts to design and complete environmental analyses for two Southern California high-speed train regional lines. STV will provide engineering/environmental services for a Los Angeles-to-Orange County line; a joint venture between Hatch Mott MacDonald, LLC (HMM), URS, and Arup, with HMM as the lead, will complete analyses of the Palmdale-to-Los Angeles line.

New Jersey Transit awarded a contract for preliminary design of the $7.2 billion Trans-Hudson Commuter Rail Tunnel Project to THE Partnership, a joint venture of Parsons Brinckerhoff, STV Group, and DMJM Harris. The project includes a new tunnel under the Palisades in New Jersey and the Hudson River to midtown Manhattan and an expanded rail station connected to the existing New York Penn Station. Concept plans call for construction of two, side-by-side, single-track tunnels 4.1 miles long. The new tunnel will supplement the existing 100-year-old Amtrak-owned Hudson River tunnel by doubling commuter rail capacity between New Jersey and New York.

RBF Consulting was selected by Rohnert Park, Calif., to prepare corridor concept plans for three major streets within the city. The process will require community outreach to promote a three-day Community Immersion, where members of RBF’s Urban Design Studio will meet with civic leaders and property owners, engaging community members in a virtual tour of the corridors, walking tours, and a design workshop to prepare the concept plans.
