WASTEWATER
The Omaha, Neb., Department of Public Works began the planning phase of a long-term program to control combined sewer overflows (CSO) from 31 outfalls within its 51-square-mile sewer service area. The planning portion of the project was divided into 10 planning basins. Wade Trim and Lamp, Rynearson Associates were awarded a contract for the complex Leavenworth CSO Basin in downtown Omaha. The two firms will evaluate alternatives to determine the best way to control the overflows, including treatment options and a deep storage tunnel.

Baseline Engineering was selected by the city of Idaho Springs, Idaho, for surveying, design engineering, and construction administration services for a major sanitary sewer rehabilitation project. The project will replace a large portion of the city’s aging collection system to reduce inflow and infiltration.

Parsons, in a joint venture with Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc., received a $211 million contract from King County, Wash., for the middle portion of the Brightwater treatment system’s 13-mile conveyance pipeline, part of the county’s $1.6 billion Brightwater Project. Scope of work includes building two tunnels with multiple carrier pipes inside. Combined length of the tunnels will be about 32,000 feet. Work also includes the launch and receiving shafts, and installing about 3,400 feet of 3- to 6-foot-diameter pipes using micro-tunnel and open-cut trenching.

TRANSPORTATION
Clinard Engineering Associates, LLC, was awarded a $5 million statewide indefinite delivery contract to provide engineering services for the Tennessee Department of Transportation Maintenance Division for a period of five years. Services include traffic engineering studies, field investigations, facilities engineering, slide repair, and small structure design.

The New York State Department of Transportation selected HDR as the prime consultant to perform engineering (scoping) services for rehabilitation of the Brooklyn—Queens Expressway (BQE) in Brooklyn, N.Y. This 57-year-old segment of the BQE includes the complex and unique triple cantilever section that supports the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. The project also includes approximately 21 other bridges, including connections to the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. Construction costs for the rehabilitation project are estimated at $200 million. Services provided by HDR include preparing a project scoping report, which will be used as the basis for the design report/environmental impact statement.

CTE, a subsidiary of AECOM, was awarded the design services contract for the Indiana Toll Road widening project. The project will add a lane in each direction to three sections of the highway between mileposts 10.6 and 20.27, including major bridge construction. In a public-private partnership, the Indiana Finance Authority entered into a 75-year agreement to lease the Indiana Toll Road to ITR Concession Company, which is making the roadway improvements.
