Pennsylvania P3 bridge replacement project to use corrugated bridge deck forms

Pittsburgh — The Walsh-Granite Joint Venture awarded a contract to L.B. Foster Company to provide permanent metal bridge deck forms for use in the repair or replacement of over 400 structurally deficient bridges throughout the State of Pennsylvania. This public-private partnership (P3) was created by the state as an innovative funding program to address the rehabilitation of bridges primarily on suburban and rural Pennsylvania highways.

“L.B. Foster's recent capital investment and resource allocation toward this product line position it well to support this very important project and to further expand its role in improving our nation's transportation infrastructure. The use of L.B. Foster permanent metal deck forms for this unique and critical bridge rehabilitation program facilitates key objectives of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project initiative,” said Chris Davis, L.B. Foster Fabricated Bridge Products Sales Manager. L.B. Foster’s bridge deck forms are produced at the company's Bedford, Pa., plant and are ideal for permanent application on bridge projects where quick and cost-effective installation processes are required.

The State of Pennsylvania’s public-private approach is designed to expedite the redevelopment of unsafe bridges, lessen construction costs and minimize the impact of highway closures. The use of permanent metal deck forms is an efficient approach to bridge deck construction and will help to support the program’s goals. L.B. Foster corrugated forms are custom fabricated to individual bridge specifications and can be incorporated with prestressed concrete beams, built-up girders or steel beam bridges.
