Chicago — The Nu Skin Innovation Center in Provo, Utah, earned national recognition in the 2016 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel awards program (IDEAS²). In honor of this achievement, members of the project team will be presented with awards from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) during a ceremony to take place at the facility on Thursday, November 10.

The Nu Skin Innovation Center transforms Nu Skin Enterprises’ corporate campus into an inspiring new headquarters that reflects the modern sensibilities of a global company. The new $74 million, 170,000-sq.-ft facility houses research laboratories, conference spaces, two cafés, a retail storefront, a fitness center, three floors of executive offices and a data center in a series of elegant, light-filled spaces that reflect the aspirational qualities of the Nu Skin brand and its line of anti-aging products.

“The design is sleek and the cantilevered conference rooms are wonderful,” commented Paula Pritchard, a partner, construction manager and vice president of Plant Construction, San Francisco, and the general contractor juror in the competition.

The project was entered in the competition by its architect, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Seattle. The other members of the project team include:

  • Owner: Nu Skin Enterprises, Provo, Utah
  • Structural Engineer: Magnusson Klemencic Associates, Seattle
  • General Contractor: Okland Construction, Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Steel Fabricator: Tech-Steel, Clearfield, Utah (AISC member/certified fabricator)
  • Bender-Roller: Paramount Roll & Form, Santa Fe Springs, Calif. (AISC member)

The 10 IDEAS² winners for 2016 were chosen from nearly 100 submissions received from architectural and engineering and other project team member firms throughout the U.S. Each submission is reviewed and award winners are selected by a nationally recognized panel of design and construction industry professionals.

The IDEAS² award dates back more than 50 years with AISC. And about this year’s winning corporate campus, Roger E. Ferch, P.E., president of AISC, said, “The entire Nu Skin Innovation Center project team has shown how structural steel can be used to create structures that combine beauty and practicality. The result is a facility that serves its purpose extremely well, while providing an example of what can be achieved when designing and constructing projects with steel.”
