Nationally Ranked Firm Opens Surveying Office in Charleston

Charleston—McKim & Creed, Inc., a nationally ranked engineering, planning and geomatics (surveying) firm with locations across the U.S., has opened an office in Charleston, South Carolina. From this new office, McKim & Creed will provide surveying and mapping services, including land surveying, unmanned aerial systems (UAS, also known as drones), hydrographic surveying, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and mobile, airborne and terrestrial LiDAR.

Heading the Charleston office is Nick Miguez, PLS, CST III, a geomatics manager with 20 years’ experience in all types of surveying. During his career Mr. Miguez has directly managed daily operations for multiple survey crews performing construction layout, boundary surveys, wetland locations, topographic mapping, GPS and route surveys. His clients include ports of authority, energy companies, departments of transportation, land developers, municipalities, contractors, engineers and other consultants. In addition to being a licensed professional surveyor and a level III certified survey technician, Mr. Miguez is a certified FAA Part 107 UAS pilot. Most recently, he conducted emergency response drone surveys that helped our clients pinpoint damage from Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas. He has worked with McKim & Creed since 1999.

Joining Mr. Miguez in Charleston is Ray Dawber, PLS, who will serve as project surveyor. Mr. Dawber has over 40 years of progressive field and management experience in numerous types of land and hydrographic survey projects. He has also served as a surveying instructor at the community college level.

Notable South Carolina projects with which McKim & Creed has been recently involved include an on-call survey contract for SCDOT, mobile scanning along Interstate 26 in Charleston, Yorkshire Solar Farm, security projects within nuclear power facilities, hydrographic surveying for the S.C. Port Authority, and various hydroelectric projects.
