MWH Constructors wins DBIA Design-Build Merit Award for North Cape Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant in Florida

BROOMFIELD, COLO. — MWH, the global wet infrastructure sector provider of environmental engineering, construction, and strategic consulting services, won a 2010 Design-Build Merit Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) for its work on the $111 million North Cape Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Cape Coral, Fla. The award was announced at the 2010 DBIA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas.

MWH Constructors partnered with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to determine existing and future raw water requirements for Cape Coral, Florida’s third largest city by area. In July 2006, MWH Constructors began progressive design-build work on the new North Cape RO WTP, which provided initial treatment capacity of 12 million gallons per day (mgd) with future expansion up to 36 mgd. The project was completed in January 2010 on time and under budget.

Each year, DBIA honors the country’s most influential organizations and projects demonstrating the successful application of design-build principles, including collaboration in the early stages of the project and the acceptance of single-entity risk. Winning projects are honored for advanced and innovative application of integrated project delivery and finding unique solutions to project challenges. MWH Constructors was honored in the water/wastewater project more than $25 million category.
