Multi-modal transportation center matches historic district

Oxford, Pa. — The Harman Group (THG), a firm specializing in structural engineering and parking planning and design, announced the groundbreaking of the Oxford Multi-Modal Transportation Center. The center will provide parking for 266 cars in the Borough of Oxford’s bustling downtown commercial business district, as well as 3,500 square feet of ground floor office space and Council chambers for the borough.

The Harman Group is providing structural engineering and parking consultant services for the transportation center, which is being developed by the Borough of Oxford and designed by West Chester-based Krug Architects.

The four-level, 100,000 square foot garage is an open, long span, precast structure that consists of a single helix with two-way drive aisles and 90-degree parking stalls. Designed to match the aesthetic of nearby historic buildings, the transportation center also features a surface parking lot, park-n-ride capabilities, and a shuttle bus stop.

The new parking structure will ease parking congestion and foster event attendance, shopping, and dining in the historic district. Funding for the $6.7 million project included grants from the Chester County Community Revitalization Program, the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
