Modjeski and Masters team awarded movable bridge spec research project

Mechanicsburg, Pa. — A team from Modjeski and Masters was selected for the AASHTO LRFD Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications research project from the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies under the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). The Movable Bridge Business Unit at Modjeski and Masters will lead a team of experts that include Professor Andy Novak from Auburn University, Professor Ian Buckle from the University of Reno-Nevada, and consultant Hardesty and Hanover.

For this project, the Modjeski and Masters team will develop and incorporate a reliability-based methodology into the design of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and traffic/marine elements and systems for movable highway bridges as well as propose revisions to the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications, the primary design specifications for movable highway bridge design.

“We are proud to be selected for this Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications research project,” said Mike Britt, President of Modjeski and Masters. “It is humbling to be recognized by our peers who made the selection. We look forward to leveraging our firm’s unique and comprehensive expertise to enhance design methodologies for movable highway bridges.”

The research project is currently in its planning phase and is anticipated to be completed by September 2020.
