Flatiron team completes suspension bridge in Nicaragua

El Libico, Nicaragua — Nine Flatiron employees packed their passports, rolled up their sleeves, and spent two weeks in El Libico, Nicaragua, constructing a much-needed pedestrian bridge that allows safe passage over swollen rivers during the rainy season.

The newly constructed El Libico Bridge now provides more than 100 families, two municipal governments, and two communities year-round access to school, healthcare, markets, farms, and essential government services. El Libico community members also now have safe and reliable access to the only potable water source, since flooding prevented them from access to the source on the opposite side of the river.

Flatiron deployed a second team of employee volunteers to El Jobo, Nicaragua on March 26, 2017. Team two will complete construction of a suspension bridge on April 8.
