Flatiron completes water reclamation plant in Utah

 FIRESTONE, COLO. — Flatiron Construction recently completed the new Santaquin Water Reclamation Facility in Santaquin, Utah. This facility is the first of its kind in Utah that will store and reuse 100 percent of its treated water for a residential secondary irrigation system, with no discharge to nearby lakes. The use of reclaimed water for irrigation purposes will allow the city to conserve higher quality groundwater for drinking, while establishing a model for sustainable water resource development in Utah and the Intermountain West.

When asked about the project, Santaquin Mayor James E. DeGraffenreid stated, "The people on Flatiron’s crew did an excellent job on this project. Richard Ellsworth, division manager; Brain Massa, site superintendent; Clint Bastian, project engineer; Britton Ellsworth, mechanical superintendent; Stacy Johnson, assistant superintendent; and so many others unnamed within Flatiron and subcontracted to Flatiron did a fantastic job working with our elected leaders, city staff, city engineers and the citizens in general to make this project a great success. They were honest, fair, hardworking and earned my trust and respect."

The Santaquin Water Reclamation Facility represents the culmination of over six years of community planning and public outreach. The facility is capable of processing over 1 million gallons of water per day and includes a headworks building, biological treatment basins, membrane filtration system, ultraviolet (UV) radiation disinfection system, reclaimed water pump station and a dewatering system. In addition to the facility, Flatiron also oversaw the construction of 7,200 feet of new trunk line, as well as numerous tie-ins.
