EPA awards more than $16.9 million to Louisiana to fund drinking water systems

DALLAS — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals $16.9 million to provide low-cost loan assistance to eligible public drinking water systems for infrastructure improvements. The funds are being granted through the EPA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to ensure safe drinking water for Louisiana residents.

The Safe Drinking Water Act established the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to make funds available to drinking water systems for infrastructure improvements. The program also emphasizes providing funds to small and disadvantaged communities and programs that encourage pollution prevention as a tool for ensuring safe drinking water.
